Eye primers and cream bases are extremely important when considering the following:

-Do you want your eye shadows to appear more vibrant, and true to color?

-Do you want your eye shadows to stay in place and last for a long time?

-Do you want a smooth application, crease free?

If you answered yes to all 3 questions, continue reading to find out some of the best primers I have found work flawlessly.

So what else is so great about using an eye primer?

Well, an understated eyeshadow that you picked up for $4 is now transformed into a beautiful version of itself. Of course any pigment that is already full of color payoff may not need much help, however, taking the extra step to apply an eye base or primer prevents oily eyelids from creasing shadow and makes for a more even base to work on.

M.A.C.'s Paint Pot in Painterly -

Painterly has a classic beige/nude color with a matte finish. This is a cream based shadow that I love to use as a primer for the eye area. Easy to work with, this base enhances eyeshadow colors and pigments beautifully. Simply buff a small amount of product on top of the lids and blend out with whatever colors you want. The matte finish on this base makes products easy to work with on top of.

I find myself reaching for this base nearly everytime I do my makeup.

Urban Decay's Primer Potion -

This classic primer is thinner in consistency but is no letdown when it comes to perfomance. The texture of this product allows you to spread this with good slip. It's a light yellowish color-but applies almost transparent on lids.

Lorac's Behind the Scenes Eye Primer -

I recieved this primer after purchasing my Lorac Pro Palette 2, and was curious to see how this primer stacked against M.A.C and Urban Decay. I was very surprised to find that this primer is extremely smooth and almost more emollient based in consistency. This primer is completely transparent and does not leave any traces of coating or color on the lid. I love this primer, however

I found it didn't do much in terms of giving life to the eyeshadow colors. I don't think this primer is as strong or potent as M.A.C.'s paint pots or Urban Decay's.

Below I have tested the theory I mentioned above. I reached for the cheapest and crappiest eye palette I have and swatched some of the colors over the top of each of the primers. You can see the difference almost immeadiately.
