We've all been there. After a long day, it's finally time to take off the makeup you've had on your eyes all day. And you want a product that works well. Generally, I tend to look for 3 main characteristics when choosing eye makeup removers. Something that will take my makeup off in one swoop, something that does not irritate my eye area, and something that is non-greasy.

Here is the honest truth about these 4 eye makeup removers that I have tried. From highend to drugstore.

1) Bliss' Lid + Lash Wash Makeup Remover - $18

What this product claims to do: is "quickly dissolve makeup, in a calming-cool gel formula that is oil free and non-irritating."

At first, I thought, why not give it a go? The easy to use gel consistency is mess free- and gets the job done. A little bit of this stuff goes a long way. So I applied it liberally to my eye area and used small circular motions, gently massaging the product in my eye area. This caused not only redness to my eyes, but afterwards my eyes were so irritated I could barely open them. I'm not sure if it's the citric acid in the ingriedients but I would not recommend this to anyone. Simply took off only shadows and liners off my eyes, did not take off ANY of my mascara. Wamp wamp wamp very diasppointing Bliss! Thumbs down.

2) Almay's Longwear & Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Pads - $6.49

What this product claims to do: is "remove stubborn waterproof mascara and long wearing products. Hypoallergenic. Fragrance Free. And dermatologist tested."

I picked these up at the grocery hoping for the best and just grabbed something cheap that was also suitable for me to travel with. I was reluctant paying $6.49 for a small jar of pads that I was unsure of. Each pad is saturated with solution that gently emulsifies and removes ALL traces of your makeup. The claim is absolutely right. I was so pleased to see one pad take off BOTH eyes of makeup and not irritate my eyes. I wear contact lenses, and I have to say, these are so gentle around the eyes. Easy to use and no mess. And with 80 pads, these will last you forever! WORTH IT! The BEST eye makeup remover I have used to date. I'm hooked. Pick these up at your local supermarket or drugstore.

3) M.A.C.'s Pro Eye Makeup Remover - $21

What this product claims it is: "A mega-effective remover that lifts off every look - from delicate to dramatic - without smudges, tears or aggression. Pro-quality, yet decidedly gentle; calms, hydrates and soothes skin with cucumber extract. Makeup can be immediately reapplied. A favourite of busy models." Picked this baby up hoping for the best. I love M.A.C.'s eye makeup removing wipes and was hoping this would be the same formula. Wrong. This is not an effective product at all. The watery like consistency is runny and thin. You literally have to scrub your eye makeup off with this product. This eye makeup remover is unable to remove waterproof, or any mascara for that matter. The screw off top is not user friendly at all either. Unfortunately M.A.C. fails at this product. Not a fan at all.

4) H2O's Water Activated Eye Makeup Remover - $5 found at TJ Maxx or Marshall's

What this product claims it is: "An oil free, fragrance free gel that gently foams away eye makeup and mascara with out irritation or dryness." I found this at my local Marshall's and was intriguied by the water activated bead like molecules inside the tube. A water like, oil free consistency was also a huge plus for me. HOWEVER, after using this just once, I was unable to remove my makeup. Within seconds of this in my eye area, my eyes turned red and bloodshot, due to unbenounced stinging. This stuff is potent. I would not dare put this anywhere near my eye area again, it was that bad. This was also not strong enough to breakdown any sort of mascara let alone eyeliners. Another very big dissapointment. Avoid at all costs.

And there you have it! The breakdown of the good and the worst!
